28 March 2017

Mathew sees that Vicky is going shopping
Vicky is driving into town with Nicky to buy a new top for her outing tonight;
Nicky seems to be looking forward to it
outside the Deri she assures Mathew that she will not spend too much;
Mathew tries to look enthusiastic
Mathew seems to be rather distant.   When she drives away, Mathew sees Dani on the other side of the road,
Dani wants to ignore him . . .
but she walks past him into the Deri without a word.
. . . but he wants to talk
He follows her in and insists, “We have to talk about yesterday!   I always thought that you were out of my league.”
"That was a mistake!"
Dani simply dismisses last night as a mistake, and maintains that she loves her husband, although she was upset.   “I know enough to realise that there is something between us,” he goes on,
"I'm with Garry and you're with Vicky!"
but again she urges him to stop, reminding him that she has a husband and he has a girlfriend.
"Vicky's lovely – but she's not you!"
“Vicky is lovely – but she’s not you!” he whines.
Driving through the countryside, the car shudders to a halt
Out in the countryside, the car engine coughs and then stops;
"Oh, no!   Why does this have to happen?"
Vicky is unable to restart the engine.
Nicky, however, is quite untroubled
“Oh no!   Don’t do this to me now!” she groans.
DJ calls with some translation work
DJ visits Siôn, wanting him to do some translation for Awyr Iach, as he did the other day.   “I haven’t seen a lot of you lately –
He commiserates with Siôn
“it must be difficult getting used to being on your own again,” DJ comments,
"I don't go out much"
and Siôn admits he has not been out much since things went wrong with Gwyneth.
"Come to the Deri for a pint!"
In spite of DJ’s encouragement to go to the Deri for a pint, Siôn does not want to go out.
Mobile phone blackspot at Parc Aberdu
The spot where Vicky’s car has broken down, near Parc Aberdu, has no mobile reception.
Jason, driving Awyr Iach's van . . .
Just then,  Jason happens to be passing, on Awyr Iach delivery duty,
. . . remembers he is under orders to keep away from young women
but pretends he has not noticed Vicky and drives on, in accordance with Sara’s orders.
"I'll do it by next week"
Siôn agrees to do the translation by next week, and DJ continues to badger him to go to the Deri;
"I want you to look at the verses I've written"
“I’ve got an ulterior motive,” he says, “It’s Mam’s birthday on Saturday, and I’ve written a few verses to go in a card – I wanted to do something special in case I don’t get another chance.
"About five in the Deri?"
“Could you have a look at them before I give the card to her?   Shall we say five o’clock in the Deri?”
Siôn is reluctant to go, as he fears what people are saying about him;  DJ assures him, “They’re all discussing Sioned and Ed now, not you and Gwyneth – you can’t avoid the Deri for ever.”
Gaynor hides in the doorway of the chippy
Gaynor sees Dani across the street, and dives into the chip shop doorway to hide;  Garry is in the shop and comments, “You don’t have to hide – I haven’t told her.”
"That might be the best course of action"
Gaynor thinks that might be the best course of action, as she did not want to upset him.
"I won't pretend I wasn't tempted"
“I won’t pretend that I wasn’t tempted, Garry confesses, “But as I said, I’m a married man.”   She promises that it will not happen again, unfortunately.
"Why did you leave us in the middle of nowhere?"
Vicky arrives back in the village, on foot, and complains to Jason, “Why did you leave me and Nicky in the middle of nowhere?   There was no mobile signal, and we had to walk home.
Jason does not know what to say
“Then it started to rain, and now Nicky has a temperature, thanks to you!   I can’t believe you left us stranded!   I thought we were mates – but you’ve got  funny way of showing it!”
"Don't you have a go at my husband!"
Sara has just joined them and moans, “Hey, don’t have a go at my husband!”   Vicky replies that she thought everything was sorted;  “It is, if you stay away from my husband!” snarls Sara, “I don’t care how ill Nicky is!”
"There's something wrong with you!"
Concluding that there must be something wrong with Sara, Vicky marches off.
Siôn waits nervously for the gossip to start
In the Deri, Siôn looks around warily, and DJ says, “No-one’s said anything, have they?”
"You come out now the dragon's gone!"
Garry comes over and remarks upon Siôn having enough backbone to come out now the dragon has gone.   Garry is glad to see the back of her, revealing that she was supposed to be going to Scotland, but is actually in York.
"I would give her my regards – but I don't want to!"
“I would say give her my regards,” says Siôn, “But I don’t want to!”   Then turning to DJ’s verses,
"There's room for improvement"
he advises, “They need some work – there’s room for improvement.”
"Do I get the silent treatment all night?"
Sara nags, “Are you going to say anything?   Or do I get the silent treatment all night?”
"I did it for fear of what you would say!"
He replies that he is ashamed of himself for the way he behaved;  he turned his back on a mother and child for fear of what Sara would say.
"I'm completely paranoid, and it's your fault!"
He asks her, “What did you think would happen if I stopped?   That I’d pull into a layby?   I’m completely paranoid, and it’s your fault!   I don’t want to argue – I’m just telling you that I can’t live with your jealousy any more!”
Mathew arrives at Maes-y-Deri, for their date, only to be told that Nicky is ill, and Vicky cannot leave him overnight with her Mam.   She imagines that he will be devastated,
"You go with someone else"
and tells him to go to the gig with a friend;  she assumes that Eifion would be happy to go.
Vicky quickly realises something is wrong
Mathew does not want the tickets, and will not kiss her, so she asks what is wrong.   “There’s no easy way of saying this,” he begins,
"We shouldn't see each other any more"
“But I don’t think we should see each other any more – it isn’t a good idea.”
Sara's elaborate preparations . . .
Sara has prepared dinner, with glasses of wine and a candle burning on the table,
. . . put Jason right off, and he goes out
but Jason turns and walks out of the house.
"What's going on, Mathew?"
wants to know what is going on, as he was looking forward to the gig, and wonders what has changed.
"I don't see any future for us"
“I don’t see any future for us, and I wanted to tell you now, so that we can stay friends,” he replies.   Vicky protests that she does not want to be friends, she wants to go out with him, and cannot understand why he is dumping her,
"Is it because I'm too clingy?"
wondering if she is being too ‘clingy’.
He again maintains that things will be better this way,
"Have you met someone else?"
and she demands, “Have you met someone else – is that why you’re doing this?”   He simply explains that this is how he feels, and leaves the house.
"Mam, you're great, and you're also my mate!"
Siôn gives his verdict on DJ’s literary offerings such as, “Mam, you’re great, and you’re also my mate,” and, “You have style, and I love your smile.”
DJ is not happy with his poetic talent
He advises that the sentiment needs to be more specific, asking if there is anything she likes to do, or that they do together.
"I might stay for another pint"
Siôn then decides that perhaps he will stay for another pint, as it is obvious DJ was right that people are not talking about him.
This is where Garry is taking Dani
Garry is looking at the website of Waterbrook Lodge in Cornwall, and tells Gaynor that he is thinking of taking Dani on a romantic break.
"I'd prefer somewhere a bit more exclusive"
“If you were taking me away, I’d prefer somewhere a bit more exclusive” she comments,
"Stop flirting, Gaynor!"
and he urges her to stop flirting.
"Mathew's dumped me!"
Vicky comes in and goes upstairs to see Dani;  “He’s dumped me!   I said I couldn’t go to the gig and he finished with me, just like that!
"He says we're better off apart!"
“One minute he says I’m lovely, and the next we’re better off apart!”
"You know what men are like!"
Dani looks guilty, and predicts that it is only a blip;  “You know what men are like!”   She insists that she has not seen Mathew flirting with other women,
"It's because you're getting serious"
and suspects that he is panicking because Vicky is getting serious.
"You must do your best to get him back"
“You must do your best to get him back – you have to persuade him that it is a mistake, and you’re the best thing that has happened to him.
"Don't give up!"
“Don’t give up until you get him back!”
