12 April 2017

Sioned realises the scale of her financial problems . . .
As Sioned looks at her online bank statement,
. . . there is nothing in the bank
things are worse than she feared;
She seems to have formulated a plan
she thinks for a moment and then makes up her mind.
Eifion is talking pheasants
At Penrhewl, Eifion tells Cadno that the pheasants have to be fed until October, and then are set free at the start of the shooting season.   “But until Sioned and the boys cough up, there won’t be any birds!” he adds.   He considers that it will be a success, otherwise he would not be doing it
An enigmatic text from Sioned
Then he receives a text from Sioned, “Please come and see me,” and looks puzzled.
Not a word is spoken
In the Deri, Dani and Mathew look at each other without a word, then Garry comes in
"She's this close to selling the business to me"
and advises Dani, “Sioned is this close to selling the taxi business to me.   The school don’t use her any more, and I heard that Awyr Iach have stopped as well – she’s in trouble.”
"And you want to take advantage!"
“And you want to take advantage!” replies Dani, but he prefers to think of it as helping her out.   He envisages that he will not keep Ceir Sir Gar, which leaves Deri Deithio, and now they have an assistant manager,
"Then you could run Deri Deithio"
Dani would be free to run it.
Dani's protests fall on deaf ears
Dani does not want to, being happy with the current situation, but Garry points out that this would be the best use of their resources.
Mathew is bluntly told to stay out of it
Mathew tries to intervene, saying that Dani is not happy about the idea, but is told to keep his nose out.
Dani appears not entirely happy with the situation
“Just think it over, Dani – it makes sense – we’ll wait until Sioned is ready to sell.”
Linda and Cadno avoid each other
Outside the chippy, Linda emerges from a Valley Taxi;  Cadno is passing and they both ignore each other.
"DJ would love to see you – he's in Awyr Iach"
Jason comes round the corner and insists that she must go to see DJ in Awyr Iach, although she wants to go to the Deri and book a room there.
Not an effusive welcome from DJ
She receives a very lukewarm welcome from DJ;  “What’s wrong?   Aren’t you pleased to see your Mam?” Jason asks,
"Your health must be going downhill"
and DJ assumes that if she is in Cwmderi, it must be something to do with her health .
He hugs his Mam
However she insists that she has not deteriorated, and he hugs her.
Sioned, dressed to . . . well, not exactly kill . . .but
Sioned, wearing a suitably seductive black dress, produces a bottle of wine and two glasses;  when Eifion arrives, she explains that she is sorry for the other day.
"There was a time when we got on really well"
Handing him a glass of wine, she goes on, “It’s not like us to argue, is it?   There was a time when we got on really well!   I know you’re angry at not getting your money – and I’m angry too about being in debt, but you’ll get your share when I’ve sold the business.
"Some kind of understanding"
Until I find a buyer, I’m sure we can reach some kind of understanding.”
In the Deri, Dani asks Cadno how the new enterprise is coming along,
"A shotgun would play havoc with my nails"
and admits, “I don’t think my nails and a shotgun go together!”   Changing the subject, she enquires, “Have you forgiven Mathew yet?   I wondered if he could go back to Penrhewl.”
Mathew has been doing Dani a favour
Mathew has just come in and takes exception to Dani trying to get rid of him behind his back;  “And after I’ve done you a favour,” he adds, “Twenty of Jim’s flyers have been distributed round the village.”
Cadno is reluctant to have Mathew back
Cadno thinks it might be an advantage to keep Mathew where he is.
Eifion is more interested in the money
Eifion wants to learn more about his cut of the money, when the business is sold, but Sioned tells him,
"Some more wine?"
“You don’t need to worry about that now – do you want more wine?”   When he declines the offer, she continues,
"I know what you want!"
“I know what you want,” stands up and extends a hand to him;  “Come on!”
"Stop before you embarrass yourself even more!"
Eifion does stand up but, to to her dismay, walks towards the door, and remarks, “I wanted to see how far you’d take this pantomime!    Stop before you embarrass yourself even more!”
"We'll see who's embarrassed!"
“We’ll see who’s embarrassed!   It’s your word against mine,” Sioned snarls.
"Do I look scared?"
“He smiles, “Do I look scared?   I want the money by the end of next week – or I’ll take you to court – understand?   Thanks for the wine!”
Sioned cannot believe he has turned down her alluring charms
He leaves, and Sioned sits down, deflated that her plan has failed.
And about time Gwen had a day off
In the café, where Gwen appears to be having a well-earned day off, DJ asks his mother why she changed her mind;
"Last time, you said you didn't want my company"
“Last time you said you didn’t want my company.”   Linda replies that she just needed some time alone.
"Linda!   Fancy seeing you!"
Then Diane comes in and is surprised to see Linda back in the village;
"Bring Linda's case up to Bryntirion!"
she insists that Linda has to come and stay at Bryntirion, and hurries home to tidy up.
Linda receives an unwelcome call
Linda has a phone call which disturbs her, she rejects the call.
"When does the syndicate kick off?"
Out in the street, in the rain, Jason asks Eifion when the syndicate kicks off;
"We have to get the money first"
Eifion stresses that they need the money before committing themselves to anything.
It appears some work has been done at the surgery
Jason is shocked that it is £900 per head for membership and ten days’ shooting, but a £150 deposit will secure his place.
They go when Kelly approaches
They stop talking when Kelly approaches, so she knows they are up to something.
Linda arrives at Bryntirion . . .
DJ and Linda arrive at Bryntirion,
. . . and Diane welcomes her
where Diane welcomes her back;
Another of those phone calls
Linda’s phone again rings and she rejects the call again.   She complains that DJ is fussing over her too much, but Diane points out that he has been very worried about her.
Kelly does not intend giving them any privacy
Kelly is having a coffee at the bar of the Deri when Eifion comes in, wanting a private word with Garry.   “Don’t look at me – this is a public bar!” exclaims Kelly,
"The shooting will be good for everyone"
so Eifion explains he wants to talk about the shooting syndicate, advising that it will be good for the Deri, as Penrhewl will not be ‘stepping on anyone’s toes’.
"Organised murder!"
“Organised murder!” shouts Kelly, “I’m disgusted!   But don’t worry – you’ll never raise the support you need – yeah, go on, smile – we’ll see who has the last laugh!” and she marches out.
"Never cross a passionate woman!"
Garry advises Eifion that he should never cross a passionate woman.
DJ comes downstairs
Linda is dozing when DJ comes downstairs;  she calls him over to the sofa and stresses that she does not want him worrying about her.
"I'm not getting any worse"
“I’m not getting any worse, so until I do, I don’t want you worrying about me.   I love you and worry about you.”
There is still something on her mind
DJ confesses that he is glad she is there, and hugs her;  Linda obviously has something else on her mind.
Sioned has by now covered up a bit
As Cadno and Eifion chat in the Deri, Sioned comes over;  Eifion asks if she wants something, and she replies that a white wine would be nice.
"Well – go and buy one, then!"
“Well – go and buy one, then!” he tells her.
She insists that he owes her one,
"What are you suggesting?"
and Cadno asks what she is suggesting;  “I can do more than suggest,” snaps Sioned, “I was only trying to be nice!”
Cadno’s response is that trying to be nice does not suit her;  “Eifion told me what happened – you should be ashamed of yourself, but there we go – you’ve never been ashamed of anything!”
"The father of your children is such a pervert!"
Sioned says she feels sorry for Cadno, as the father of her children is such a pervert,
"You've never felt sorry for anyone in your life!"
but receives the rebuff, “You never felt sorry for anyone in your life!   At least Eifion wouldn’t sell himself for money!”
Sioned is lost for words and slinks away
At this, Sioned retreats to the bar, and Cadno smiles wryly.
"Thanks for the flyers"
In the Deri flat, Dani thanks Mathew for the flyers, and again he objects to the way Garry speaks to her;
"You deserve a lot better!"
“He never gives a thought to your feelings – you deserve better – a lot better!”
"You have to leave, Mathew!"
Dani has had enough and tells him he has to leave;
"I'll admit everything to Garry!"
“If you don’t move out, I’ll admit everything to Garry!” she says.
"Do you want me to tell him?"
He tells her to go ahead, in fact offering to tell Garry himself.   “Do you know what he would do to you?” demands Dani, but Mathew replies that she is worth it.
“No!” shouts Dani, “All right, you can stay – but this has to stop!”
At the bar, Eifion has a call from Hywel, wanting to do an item on CwmFM about the syndicate.
What will Sara have to say about this?
Then Jason comes in and hands over his deposit, reporting that Hywel has pledged his support,
Jason is a one man publicity drive
Dai will be up for it, and that he is currently working on DJ.
"Don't you have an ounce of conscience?"
Kelly wants to know what they are smirking about, and is outraged that Jason is the first to part with his money;  “Don’t you have an ounce of conscience?” she squeals.   Jason describes it as a bit of fun,
"The murderers' union!"
but Kelly  goes on, her voice rising in volume, “Not for the birds, it’s not!   It’s the murderers’ union!”
"Behave, Kelly!"
Garry warns her to behave, or she knows what will happen.
When Eifion asks where Garry’s money is, he is amazed by the reply;
"Think I want to join your syndicate?"
“You think I want to join your syndicate?   I’m against killing innocent birds and animals, but I’m glad the Deri will benefit – I’m a man of principle!”
"Principles – you?"
This occasions gales of laughter from Eifion;  “Principles – you?”
"Now would be a good time for you to shut up!"
Garry warns that now would be a good time for him to shut up.
The launch of the Cwmderi Syndicate
Eifion orders a bottle of champagne to celebrate the launch night of the Cwmderi Syndicate; Garry turns to Dani and instructs her, “Bottle of champagne!”
"You won't be celebrating for long!"
Kelly predicts, “Make the most of it – you won’t be celebrating for long – I’ll make sure of that!”
