Cwmderi Springwatch
Dai finds Jason putting up a notice in APD;  ‘Cwmderi Springwatch bird survey.’
"Marketing idea to shift some nest boxes"
He explains that he found a lot of nest boxes and bird food out the back, and this would be a good way to shift them;  “If people are counting the birds, it’s a reason to put food out, and they’re nesting now.”
He will need help with the questionnaires and putting the results on computer,
"We're going to this Prenatal Group . . ."
and Britt volunteers Chester for this task.   He asks her not to send Chester over after four o’clock, as he and Sara are going to a meeting of the Prenatal Group,
". . . and I'm not looking forward to it!"
which includes a video of a birth, which he is not looking forward to.
"Tell her you've got a virus"
Dai advises him, “if you want to get out of this prenatal business, tell her you’ve got a virus – they won’t want you within a hundred yards!”
Mixed reactions about Chester at Bryntirion
In the chip shop flat, Hannah tells Chester that she informed Dai and Diane that he had been over last night, and received a mixed reaction;  “Dai was OK about you and me.”
Chester knows what is coming next, “But Diane thinks you’re too good for me!”   Hannah admits that Diane can be a snob sometimes.
Britt announces the bird survey job
Then Britt comes in and advises Chester of the job she has lined up for him over Easter with the bird survey.
Chester knows nothing about birds
He protests, “But the only thing I know about birds is they’re in chicken nuggets!”
"Good way to impress Dai and Diane!"
Hannah considers this might be a good way to impress Dai and Diane.
Sioned loses a contract at Deri Deithio
Sioned is in the taxi office when Anita comes in, on behalf of Awyr Iach, to tell her they are terminating the arrangement to use Deri Deithio to deliver orders.   “The work that Ed did we shall be transferring to another firm.   We had a discussion and decided it would be better to sever ties with you.”
"You welcomed Kevin the rapist!"
Sioned is angry;  “And you agreed with that?   But you were willing to welcome Kevin into your home – the rapist!”   Anita reminds her that he was Meic’s son, and it seemed the right thing to do.   Sioned sneers, “So everyone gets a second chance – except me!   Thanks for delivering the message.”
Chester enthuses about birds
Chester extols the merits of a bird feeder at APD;  “They will come right up to my bedroom window –
Jason is either spellbound or bored stiff
I can watch them for hours!”   Hannah adds that it is one of Chester’s passions.   As Jason is finding the forms,
Diane calls to Hannah
Dai and Diane come in, with Diane reminding Hannah that she thought they had an understanding about Chester.
"He only wants to prove himself"
“He only wants to prove himself,” Hannah argues, “You don’t know him like I do –
"We'll cook you Swagman's Bake!"
we could cook dinner for you tonight – a speciality from Australia – Swagman’s Bake, with lots of meat and pasta.”
"I like the sound of that, Diane!"
Dai urges her to give them a chance, as he quite fancies the sound of this dish, so Diane grumpily agrees.
Happier times at Parc Aberdu
In the bedroom, Jim is looking at photos of Courtney, one of them, coincidentally, at Parc Aberdu.
"We went to Porthcawl a few times – without Angela"
He shows them to Eileen and tells her, “When she was a little girl we went to Porthcawl a few times – without Angela.   It was heaven – I’d give her all my attention, and she loved every minute of it.
"It would be nice to go back to the same B&B"
It would be nice to go back there, to the same B&B, just off the prom – it’s still there, and run by the same couple.   When I spoke to them, the first thing they asked was, ‘How’s the little girl?’   They’d love to see me again.”
Jim is rather emotional
Eileen says this is a nice idea, and Jim becomes rather tearful.
Coughs and sneezes . . .
As they get out of the car at the venue for the Prenatal Group, Jason coughs and sneezes a couple of times, with the result predicted by Dai;
. . . yield the predicted outcome
“The mothers don’t want your germs – just go home,” instructs Sara.
"I need a couple of chicken pieces"
Chester calls at the chippy and asks his mother for a couple of chicken pieces to put in a pasta bake, but she has none available, so he decides he will raid the fridge at home.   Then
"But, Chester, they're out of date!"
Britt remembers, too late, that there is a lot of out of date food in there, which she has not disposed of.
Sioned wants to promote her business . . .
Sioned arrives at the chippy with promotional flyers for Deri Deithio, but Britt will not allow her to leave them there;
. . . but is refused by Britt
“My customers feel strongly about what happened – they would be uneasy seeing your advert here.”   Sioned takes them away.
"I'll get a lift home . . ."
Later, Jason returns to collect Sara, but she tells him she is staying to dinner there, and will get a lift home.
". . . and just so you don't miss out"
She presents him with a DVD, so that he does not miss out on the video.
The antipodean culinary masterpiece takes shape
Chester and Hannah are working hard in the kitchen at Bryntirion, and Dai is keen to see how this Swagman’s Bake tastes,
"That's rather a lot of chilli flakes!"
but Diane is more concerned by the amount of chilli flakes that are being added to it.   “Australians like hot stuff!” Hannah replies,
The term 'hot stuff' tickles Dai
which amuses both Chester and Dai.
"I'd better do my packing!"
Jim has packed his bag already, and Eileen remarks that she will have to hurry to pack hers;
"I'm going on my own"
then he tactlessly announces, “I’m going on my own – that’s the whole point.   This is difficult to explain –
"Remembering what it was like with Courtney"
I’m going to remember what it was like on holiday with Courtney.   I thought you realised – it’s just me and my memories – I’ll only be away a night or two.   It’s something I need to do.”
Eileen is very upset . . .
Eileen is left very disappointed and upset
. . . as Jim leaves for Porthcawl
as he leaves.
"You can taste the chillies"
As they eat the meal, Diane can definitely taste the chillies;  “They eat this in the outback,”
"They like macho things out there!"
Hannah explains, “They like macho things out there!”
"That must be why I like it!"
Dai comments that must be why he likes it, and points out he knows lots of Australians – well, those who play rugby or cricket, at any rate.
"I'm a big fan of Masterchef!"
When asked by Diane what are his hobbies, Chester replies, “Oh, cooking, definitely– I’m a big fan of Masterchef!”
Hannah is amused
while Hannah sniggers.
"Battered sausage and chips, please, Britt"
Jason goes to the chippy for a battered sausage and chips;  he pulls out the DVD with his wallet and tells Britt that Sara is eating out this evening.
Britt assumes it is an 'X-rated' video
“So you’re watching that while she’s out!” she says, knowingly, “No wonder it doesn’t have a label!”   He is quick to point out that it is in fact a video of a birth.
“And you’ll be hiding behind the sofa, will you?” laughs Britt,
She regales him with gruesome tales of childbirth
“If they filmed me having Aaron, it would be a long video – I was in labour for twelve hours with him – the other two popped out like corks from a bottle of pop!”
Dai is not feeling too clever . . .
Then Dai comes into the shop, suffering from stomach pains, remarking that he has left Diane to bond with Chester and Hannah;  Jason invites him to number 9 for a couple of cans to settle his stomach.   When Dai reveals that Chester has been cooking at Bryntirion,
. . . and then hears of out of date chicken
Britt realises where her out of date food was going.
"I'm not sure how long this can go on!"
Sioned tells her mother she is not sure how long she can go on losing money like this;  “Losing the school contract would be the final nail in the coffin!” she says.
"It's you they're against, not Deri Deithio"
Eileen points out that people are not against supporting Deri Deithio, they are against supporting her.   “They want to drive me away!” wails Sioned, but her mother stresses she does not want her to go anywhere.   If the business folds, Sioned insists will have no choice.
The explicit video . . .
Jason and Dai watch the video with its accompanying screams of pain;
. . . proves to be a sight too powerful for the lad
it is not long before Jason can stand no more, and turns it off.   “If I can’t watch it on telly, what’s the chance for the real thing?” he asks Dai,
"Don't be so soft, Jason!"
who tells him not to be soft.
“You’ve seen me brawling on the rugby pitch – I’m not soft!” Jason insists, and Dai recalls when he punched that prop from Tremyrddin, he went down like a sack of potatoes.
"Deep breath – like this"
“What you want to do is control your breathing,” Dai advises, “A deep breath – then let it out in spurts – you’ll feel proud, seeing your first baby born,
Jason follows instructions
and Sara will appreciate it.”
"Nefi wen!   My stomach's in knots!"
Then he groans, and exclaims, “Nefi wen!   Chester’s blinking food!   My stomach’s in knots – I’ll kill that Chester!”
Dai is in quite considerable pain
and he groans again, repeatedly.
"I've lost everyone, apart from you"
“Everyone I’ve been close to – I’ve lost them, apart from you,” laments Eileen, “John died, I built a life with your father and lost him, I found Angela and now she’s gone – Courtney – and now, Jim!”
"Jim hasn't left you!"
Sioned admonishes her that Jim has not left her, and will not do so;
"Sioned tries to console Eileen
she hugs her mother.
Diane is also experiencing the same symptoms
At Bryntirion, Diane has been experiencing the same pains as Dai,
"I know about the out of date food!"
and when he returns home she concludes, “It was that meal!”   Dai reveals that he has spoken to Britt about the out of date food,
"Look at us – we're fine!"
but Chester maintains that there was nothing wrong with it, evidenced by the fact that he and Hannah are absolutely fine.
Dai rages that they might as well have served Spaghetti alla Salmonella, and Diane is in such pain that she has to go and lie down,
"You're leaving, and you're not coming back!"
but first orders Chester, “You’re leaving this house now, and you’re not coming back!”
"Look what you've done now, Chester!"
Even Hannah has turned on him;  “Now Dai is against us too!   Diane said she’ll send me back to Australia if we carry on dating – today was a chance to make her change her mind – and you messed it up!   You’d better go now, before they come back, or I’ll be on the next flight, thanks to you!”
Is that a real pain, or put on for Chester's benefit?
As she ushers him out of the house, she appears to have stomach pains – or is she feigning it?
